Over the past year, the market has had more challenges than I have come across during my 30 years experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have witnessed several shortages, and delivery issues due to material allocations from resin suppliers. This is definitely the very first time I have seen all these issues at one time.
PTFE Sheet (TFE) and Kynar - PVDF both are on allocation.
These two resins are in short supply. The PTFE Sheet suppliers product PTFE (TFE) along with Kynar-PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that is mined in Mongolia and China. The world demand for this mineral has grown significantly, as well as the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high temperature resistance, excellent chemical resistance and extremely low co-efficient of friction (slippery) and is utilised within tons of applications from non-stick fry pots and pans to ptfe tape for use at home. This specific mineral is the crucial raw materials within the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and several refrigerants.This increasing amount of demand combined with shortage of raw materials is responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double within the past year), shortages, and we expect these two factors to stay in affect in the near future.
